Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have current openings? If not, when is your next anticipated opening for each class?
YES, we have immediate availability in all our age groups at this time. To confirm this information at any time, please call the center (703.520.9966) to speak to our Center Director, Ms. Freida Steele, who can update you on our current enrollment availability for each classroom.
Do you operate on a school academic calendar?
Though our school year contractually starts in September and ends in August, we are open year-round. We follow the Alexandria City Schools calendar for holidays and inclement weather closings.
What is the average size for each classroom?
Our average enrollment size for each classroom is as follows:
Lambs 1 – 12
Lambs 2 – 16 to 20
Ducks – 10 to 15
Penguins – 14 to 16
Cubs & Giraffes – 10 to 18
Does your center offer part-time options?
We no longer offer part-time enrollments at Great Beginnings. We did offer this option during the pandemic but have since stopped offering it. We only offer full-time enrollment at this time.
Are virtual tours acceptable?
Our preference is for in-person tours as it gives better context and helps parents see the program for what it is, which we believe is important in the decision-making process. However, for families that are either out of town or otherwise unable to make it in, we do offer virtual tours via “WhatsApp”.
Do you provide meals?
Yes, meals are provided at no additional cost to the parents. Our center participates in the CACFP and provides iron-fortified formula and pureed foods for enrolled infants. We also provide breakfast, a hot lunch, and an afternoon snack for all children in our Toddler to Preschool classrooms. All meals served at Great Beginnings are prepared by a licensed Caterer from a menu designed by a licensed Nutritionist.
Can the center substitute for food allergies or can the parents provide substitute snacks/food?
Our licensed Caterer will always do their best to accommodate and provide substitutes for children who may have allergies or other dietary restrictions. In the event that they are unable to do that, then parents are welcome to provide a substitute from home for their children.
What does the day-to-day curriculum look like within a classroom?
The daily schedule and curriculum utilization in each classroom varies based on the children’s developmental level. The learning activities are spread throughout the day, commencing with circle time in the morning and then revisited during the day in between periods of mealtime, playtime, and rest time. The children typically start their day with prayer, a children’s devotional, the pledge of allegiance, and other recitals before moving into circle time. The activities within the A Beka curriculum range from simple art projects and sensory activities for our toddlers, to more engaging elements such as phonics, early reading, math, writing, and Bible activity for our Preschoolers.
What does the materials fee include?
The material fees cover all materials used in the care and education of the children from stationery, to curriculum books and other classroom supplies.
What is the fee for a parent wanting to withdraw their child from the center?
In order to withdraw your child from care, you will have to provide a written 30-day notice (by email is fine). You will be required to pay the prorated tuition due for that 30-day period and can also have your security deposit applied to the prorated balance due as long as you provide the required notice.
Are cloth diapers accepted at the center?
At this time, we only allow disposable diapers.
